How Real Runners Use Athletes for Yoga

You've heard us by now: It's not just about doing yoga, it's how you do it that matters. That a little bit goes a super long way when you're consistent. That you can do #yogaforreal. But runners, where do you start? We tapped runners who are using Athletes for Yoga to achieve their goals, and asked them how. Here's their CliffNotes!

Spoiler: 5-Minute Resets and Booty Lock Mitigation are some of our most loved moves!

Western States 100 mile!

How do you use Athletes for Yoga in your training?
I use Athletes for Yoga almost every day. It's my time to give back to my body and to Reset mentally, physically, and spiritually. Athletes for Yoga compliments my training because it's not another "workout" but rather an important compliment to the way I use my body running each day. I love feeling like I'm able to work through the "stuck" areas and teach my body to be more efficient running. I don't have to be on a yoga mat or in workout clothes — I can do these movements anywhere. Like, in an airplane (true story!). Seriously though, the ability to break down each movement into sizeable pieces that are beneficial for me is why I love Athletes for Yoga!

Most used/favorite Athletes for Yoga Video? Why?
Right now I'm a fan of the 5-Minute Reset videos. I always have five minutes and I find that these videos allow me to address areas that I normally hold tension. I love them!

Ky Derby Festival miniMarathon + Chicago Marathon 2017

How do you use Athletes for Yoga in your training?
I enjoy yoga, but as a fitness instructor I can get to the point where I don't want to be at the gym for another hour. Plus, timing the classes around my running and teaching schedule is tough. Athletes for Yoga allows me to incorporate a yoga practice that suits my specific needs.

Most used/favorite Athletes for Yoga Video? Why?
I love the 5-Minute Resets that I can do at home OR during the workday to help keep everything moving right. Being able to access Athletes for Yoga from any device really opened up my ability to incorporate yoga on a regular basis. The expanded video collection provides opportunities for strength-training, balance work, mobility and flexibility — but also the mental side and staying in tune with my body.

What are you training for?
Shorter races for now (Shamrock Shuffle 8k in Chicago, BAA 5k) and then a fall marathon

How do you use Athletes for Yoga in your training?
I work from home part time (I own my own coaching business) and have two young children (ages one and three) who are home with me full time. My training time is basically limited to two hours per day when I use childcare at the YMCA. A few months ago I started using Athletes for Yoga with the goal of doing at least one five-minute video each day, and it became a nice relaxing break from my otherwise hectic day. I knew I could always sneak off for five minutes and #hitreset even when my kids are at their maximum level of crazy. Sometimes I have time after my run and I'll do a longer video as well. I always look forward to using Athletes for Yoga because it makes me feel better and helps me be a better runner AND mom.

Most used/favorite Athletes for Yoga Video? Why?
The 5-Minute Hip Reset when I'm short on time because that's one of my problem areas. If I have more time I love the Comprehensive Hip + Hamstring Reset. In fact, I'm going to go do that one right now!

Boston Marathon 2017

How do you use Athletes for Yoga in your training?
I use Athletes for Yoga on a daily basis. For warm up and to #hitreset after both short and long runs and especially for recovery. The great thing about it is if I have a tight area I can easily find a video that addresses that area. I subscribe to the videos as well as using the HIT RESET book. I watch the videos on my iPhone or iPad anywhere in the house I can find a quiet space. My dog Thor loves to come lay by me while I am doing them.

Most used/favorite Athletes for Yoga Video? Why?
One I am using a lot right now is Booty Lock Mitigation. My hips and glutes have been getting super tight after my longs runs. This video always helps loosen them up.

I am also loving the new 26.2 Collection of videos. The two I use regularly are High Mileage Reset and Sunday Reset. These help create space and loosen me up after my long runs. My other favorite in this collection is Run Visualization
