What the Reset Revolution means to me...

Kendra

I first came to Athletes for Yoga before hashtags… before there were tees and tanks, team meetings, HH at Hilliard’s, Sunday dinners, community classes… I came to Athletes for Yoga when it was a small drop-in class in Fremont with one groovy gal, my tight hammies, and a mat. In that first hour taking class from Erin Taylor something clicked in me… Or, I should say, “unclicked” — uncoiled, unwound. I was hooked when I was first instructed to take a deep slow breath in. In that moment, I knew that Athletes for Yoga offered something of great value to my Type-A, ever-pushing, ever-juggling personality. What I didn’t anticipate was truly finding myself and finding a family in this team.

For me, “Hit Reset” comes in many forms. Whether it’s reminding myself to take a deep breath before working with patients at Children’s hospital, before taking a final exam, before I teach, or before engaging in the simplest of conversations, I constantly find myself using Athletes for Yoga concepts to reorient myself toward center — a place of balance and ease within myself. These small moments have changed me. They have softened me and made me realize that no matter what ups and downs I encounter, life goes on. Breathing deeply during both moments of beauty and moments of resistance, finding a sense of grounding, and knowing that for better or worse each moment will pass, has helped me to soak in the good and to let the bad truly dissipate. Sure, it doesn’t always work. I get frustrated and fall behind in my practice and in my pursuit of balance. But, Athletes for Yoga has taught me that even that’s no biggie. It’s the conscious effort to sustain balance — so that you can go out into the world and offer something of genuine kindness and value — that truly matters.

I can without a doubt say that I wouldn’t have come to this place of peace organically. It’s because I have a community of support that I’m able to find more ease in my day-to-day life — and this is what sets Athletes for Yoga apart from the rest. Class is not simply a place to go, roll out your mat, and leave. When you join the Reset Revolution, you become a part of the Athletes for Yoga family. Whether its grabbing beers after class or meeting for a weekend run, we rep in our gear, posse up with our #OMies, and support each other in achieving our goals, as well as getting through the day-to-day #nyuuuuggghhhh. If you haven’t already, join us! I highly suggest the next #yogaandbeer to start…
